A Calm L-Shaped Oak Kitchen in Anne Boysen’s Home

For Danish architect, designer and artist Anne Boysen, creativity rarely stands still. Her work moves between objects, furniture, lighting, art and architecture—each project opening the door to another idea.

At home, however, Anne chose something quieter.

Her L-shaped kitchen was conceived as a calm and grounded presence: a place where natural materials, tactile surfaces and carefully repeated lines bring balance to everyday life. Rather than asking for attention, the kitchen settles into the architecture and creates room for the people and objects around it.

The Architectural Rhythm of 25×25 design

Anne selected her most beloved Kongacph design, the 25×25 workshop kitchen, for her own home. Its distinctive framework creates a measured rhythm across the cabinetry. Slender oak profiles outline each surface, giving the composition depth, precision and a quietly graphic character.

In this setting, the 25×25 structure follows the L-shaped layout and draws the eye naturally around the room. Tall cabinetry anchors one side, while the working surfaces continue along the adjoining walls. The result feels composed rather than imposed—as though the kitchen has grown directly from the architecture.

The repetition of the frames brings order, yet the natural oak prevents the expression from becoming rigid. Every front reveals a slightly different grain. Some lines remain straight and restrained, while others spread into richer, radiating patterns. Together, they form a sophisticated texture that can be both seen and felt.

A Natural Oak Kitchen Made for Touch

Materiality lies at the centre of the kitchen. The warmth and tactility of oak cabinetry are contrasted by a slender stainless-steel worktop, whose cool surface reflects the changing daylight.

This meeting of materials creates a subtle tension: wood and metal, warmth and precision, softness and structure. Nothing is overly polished or decorative. Instead, character emerges through touch, grain, proportion and the way the surfaces age through daily use.

An open niche brings breathing space to the composition. Here, the cabinetry becomes a frame for flowers, artwork and personal objects. It gives the natural oak kitchen a lived-in quality and allows Anne’s creative world to become part of the interior.

Objects Returning Home

Among these objects are Anne’s own Lituus glass vases, created for Georg Jensen. Their sculptural curves introduce a softer movement against the linear rhythm of the 25×25 cabinetry.

Placed within her own kitchen, the vases feel especially personal. Objects that began as sketches and ideas in Anne’s studio now return as part of her everyday surroundings. Their fluid silhouettes complement the structured oak framework, creating a dialogue between the kitchen and the work of the person who lives there.

A Quiet Space Within a Creative Life

Although Anne’s professional life is shaped by ongoing ideas and new projects, her own kitchen offers a different kind of experience. It is quiet, tactile and reassuringly grounded.

The L-shaped oak kitchen provides functionality without visual noise. Its architectural rhythm introduces order, while the grain of the oak brings warmth and individuality. Against this calm background, sculptural objects, seasonal flowers and the traces of everyday life are given space to stand out.

This is Scandinavian kitchen design expressed through restraint rather than emptiness. It shows how a kitchen can be precise without feeling formal and sophisticated without losing warmth.

Above all, it reflects a deeply personal choice: a creator surrounded by ideas, choosing a place of stillness for her own home.

Opdag mere +Opdag mindre –
