Why Wood Selection Matters – Choosing the Right Grain and Finish

A solid oak kitchen is more than a design choice — it’s a commitment to longevity and personality. At Kongacph, we know that wood selection is where the story begins. The right grain pattern is the very first step defining your kitchen’s character. And the finish defines not just the look of your kitchen but also its durability and the way it will age over the time.

Understanding Grain Types

Every piece of oak tells its own story uniquely through grain. Choosing the right one is about both aesthetics and performance. At Kongacph, we have specified two types of grains: radial and tangential.
Radial texture is clean, calm, and minimal, with a consistent texture and less visual variation. Perfect for a contemporary Scandinavian look. In a meantime, tangential – bold, unique, and more expressive, featuring arch-like patterns. Ideal for rustic styles or statement kitchen projects.

Natural vs. Stained Finishes

The finish you choose is like the punctuation in your kitchen’s design language. Natural finish – lets the raw beauty and warmth of oak wood shine through, developing a rich patina over time. The most beloved natural look is OSMO3062 farblos matte. This natural finishing visually increases the texture and grains of wood. Stained finish – allows for tonal control, from warm honey tones to deep, modern charcoals, without losing the wood’s inherent character. Nevertheless, the tone colour of finishing can have slight less visual appearance for textures.
At Kongacph, we work with plant-based OSMO oils that enhance texture while protecting the surface for daily use. OSMO offers a wide range of tone colors, and we have selected Konga brand related, which are all represented at our exposition in Copenhagen and shipped for each of you individually.

Style and Durability

The grain and finish you choose for your oak kitchen define both its expression and its longevity.
Radial grain with a light oil finish, using OSMO 3518, or OSMO 3044 — calm, minimal, and timeless, the essence of a Scandinavian oak kitchen.
Tangential grain with a darker finish — more expressive and bold, ideal for a luxury oak kitchen that makes a statement. Using OSMO 3564.
At Kongacph, durability begins with the right wood selection. Every kitchen is crafted from carefully chosen oak, ensuring it matures beautifully and will serve your home for decades without losing its natural character.
