The essence of traditional Japanese kitchen design and modern rustic aesthetics is blended in the MUKU Kitchen by Masahiro Katsume. Meticulously crafted from oak wood, this kitchen is designed to celebrate the profound cultural connection between cooking and human life—an essential ritual at the heart of living and gathering.
Grounded in tradition, the design of the MUKU Kitchen evokes strength and stability, reflecting both purpose and heritage. Through intricate details, the architect’s Japanese roots are revealed, allowing tradition to be seamlessly integrated with contemporary refinement.
Handcrafted, subtle grid-like cabinets have been created to pay homage to Japanese heritage, with traditional shoji being beautifully echoed in the cabinetry design. Balance and harmony are emphasized as fundamental principles. At the same time, T-shaped elements have been thoughtfully incorporated into the solid oak carcass, introducing a modern touch while reinforcing both form and function. In this detail, the quiet minimalism of Japanese craftsmanship is reflected, ensuring that every element serves both a visual and practical purpose.
The most versatile element of the MUKU Kitchen—the removable kitchen trolley—has been designed to offer flexibility for modern living. Seamlessly integrated into the kitchen structure, it can be pulled out when additional workspace or storage is required, serving as a functional extension. When tucked away, the trolley preserves the kitchen’s clean and minimalistic aesthetic, remaining true to the philosophy of understated elegance.
The sense of tactility in the MUKU Kitchen is expressed through the brushed surface of oak wood. By deepening the texture, a connection to modern rustic elements is established. Finished with oil, the surface invites a sensory experience, allowing users to engage with the material through touch. The organic texture flows seamlessly into the interior.
An open minimalist shelf has been designed to accommodate the most commonly used kitchen items—clean, simple, and inherently functional.
